Sound familiar?

It's 10pm and you're googling it again

You've got a 3–6 year old, school is coming, and every post you read says something different.

The questions go round in a loop:

“Can they write their name yet?”

“Will they cope with a full day?”

“Will they make a friend?”

“Am I doing enough?”

Here's the thing nobody tells you at the info night:

the last one is the only question that matters, and the answer is almost always yes.

You're already doing more than you think. What's missing isn't effort. It's knowing which three or four things to put it into between now and the first day. That's what this hour is for.

In one hour

By 8:30 on Tuesday you'll know

01

Which myths to stop worrying about tonight

Starting with the one about writing their name.

02

Where your child already is

Across the six areas teachers notice in the first weeks, and what “ready” looks like at 4 and 5.

03

Six games you've started by the weekend

One for each area, nothing to buy, a few minutes a day.

04

How to get yourself through the goodbyes

The first week, the mornings, and how to talk school up at home.

05

Whether to wait a year, and how to decide

The questions Rod would ask, so it's a decision and not a worry.

06

What to ask the preschool

So you get a real answer, not “they're doing great.”

The six areas

Ready isn't about reading

It's about six everyday skills that help children settle, cope and enjoy school. Rod will show you what each one looks like, and how to grow it through play.

Nothing here needs flashcards, a worksheet or more hours. It needs ten minutes of play a day, and knowing which play.

Big feelings

Calming down, coping with “no”

Doing it myself

Shoes, lunchbox, toilet

Getting along

Turns, joining in, asking for help

Listening & talking

Following instructions, saying what they need

Having a go

Curiosity, trying again when it's hard

Little hands

Scissors, pencils, buttons

Who it's for

Parents of 3 to 6 year olds

Whether your child starts school next year or the year after. At preschool, in childcare, or at home with you. Grandparents and carers welcome, and wherever you are in the world, the replay is included.

It's not for you if you're after a reading programme or a tutor. It is for you if you want your child to walk in on day one feeling like they belong.
